I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from The Queen’s College Glasgow, Scotland in 1988. To develop my physiotherapy skills, I have taken various courses over the years: healthcare administration; leadership skills and counseling skills along with many technical courses. I specialized in pediatrics (neurology) and young adults (mental handicap and neurological disorders) for the 5 years following my 2 year basic (internship) position. I was a high school anatomy and physiology teacher for 8 years and a high school administrator for 3 years. I completed my M.Ed in 2015. On a side note, it was VERY useful to have the experience of being a graduate student while teaching! I have radically changed how I teach after this experience! I have been accepted to the Ph.D program at Mercer University (Higher Education) and plan to begin that in 2016.
I met Colin, my husband, in London – we have been married for 24 years this past May. We moved to America in 1997 when our 2 eldest children were just 3 ½ and 5 years old, they now feel more American than British! Our eldest, Steph, became an American citizen this summer and also graduated college! She is working her first 'grown up' job and has the biggest heart I know for justice and service. Matt is working toward a double major at UGA in Political Science and International Affairs, with a minor in Philosophy and then on to his dream of being a lawyer. Our youngest daughter, Alex is beginning high school this year, she has a new career thought on a weekly basis and is so curious about life and learning that she will achieve whatever she plans! She is our only true American (she is very proud of this fact).
My approach to teaching is as varied as possible, I realize that we all learn differently and also choose to study for many reasons – I am willing to give my all to people who believe in me and encourage me - so I try to be that kind of teacher to my students.
I have very high expectations and believe that every one of my students has an abundance of potential. It is my aim to unlock that potential.
I love to learn things, anything really and rather than expecting students to rote learn every artery or vein or nerve, I want to ignite their passion for learning and exploring and being ready for all that life has for them! I do this with a multimedia and hands on interactive approach, where we explore everything that has been created so wonderfully within us. We use a great textbook as our ‘spine’ and we do learn a huge amount but this is a byproduct not a goal.
A lifelong passion for learning is my goal.
Journeying with you along this path we call life!
